How do we complain about a care home?

Contact the Care Quality Commission: all homes and agencies must be registered with them.

Am I entitled to Attendance Allowance?

Probably - if you struggle to live independently due to disability or infirmity. Download a form here. Or telephone the Benefit Line on 0800 88 22 00. There are two categories of allowance, depending on your need. It is not means tested. The form is quite complicated; the CAB and Age UK (among others) offer help in filling it out.

When do I get my pension?

Try this pension link, or if you don't have access to a computer ring The Pension Service on 0845 6060265.

Do I have to take a driving test again? How old do I have to be?

You will not have to take your test again but, at 70, and every three years thereafter, you must apply to DVLA for a new licence - they will send you a reminder. The form will include a self-declaration as to the state of your health and your eyesight.

Do I have to pay council tax on my granny annexe?

If your annexe has all its own amenities (bathroom, kitchen, front door) it is a dwelling in its own right and Council Tax will be payable. If you have a couple of rooms but use the amenities of another property it is likely to come under the calculation for that property.
